Interested in our research?

Postdoctoral positions available:

We seek highly motivated individuals to join our collaborative team. Current areas of interest include 1) circuit assembly, 2) synaptic development, and 3) synaptic plasticity. For the first two topics, we examine the roles of cell surface proteins (CSPs) and signaling cascades. Although these topics are very general, we are particularly focused on the roles of Ig domain CSPs and their interactors in the developing neuromuscular system and ventral nerve cord (although we are not limited to those circuits). Additionally, we recently uncovered a form of synaptic plasticity that enables structural and functional compensation between co-innervating neurons, and we seek to determine the mechanisms underlying this process. We use a combination of genetic manipulations, biochemistry, imaging, and electrophysiology in Drosophila melanogaster.

The postdoc will have considerable freedom to develop his/her project in line with the broad interests of the lab. Successful candidates will have an excellent record of research productivity, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to think critically. Experience with model organisms, electrophysiology, confocal imaging, and quantitative analyses are highly preferred.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and CV, three references, and publications to robertcarrillo@uchicago.edu.

Graduate Students:

Interested PhD students are encouraged to apply through the Committee on Cellular and Molecular Biology, Committee on Development, Regeneration, and Stem Cell Biology, and Committee on Neurobiology. We welcome highly motivated students to become part of our team! Feel free to email me (robertcarrillo@uchicago.edu) with any questions.

Undergraduate students:

We have a limited number of spots for undergraduates. If you are interested, send a CV and statement of interest to robertcarrillo@uchicago.edu.
